Feugan be praised!

Decided to keep the helmets on after all. The Dire Avenger experiment didn't turn out too well with white as a primary colour - they looked way too much like guardians. So, im going to mix them in with the squad im currently working on which have full helmets. It's an aspect warrior thing.

Still wrestling with the female farseer model. I think I need a full saturday to really get the robe sorted out, and probably a magnifying glass. The extra parts from the Dire Avengers I got last week will prove useful in this endeavour.

Second Wave Serpent is still only base coated.

Almost finished my Fire Dragons!

Rangers are finished, and have been for some time!

Warp Spiders are built now. Fire Prism is still in the box, unfortunately.

So, another deadline missed. I feel i'm being slowed down and, sometimes, put-off by the prospect of having to paint white. My Wave Serpent took me a good few hours an evening for a whole fornight, because one mistake meant an hour of fixing. It still isn't perfect. For a single miniature it's fine because you feel the motivation to commit the sheet amount of time and effort to the job. For an entire army, it's another kettle o' elves. I think I need to develop some kind of mass-paint strategy to catch up. My first plan will be to paint the additional members of the first Dire Avenger squad along with the new squad, along with the Wave Serpent along with the Fire Prism Chassis. Do the blue. Do the white. Rinse, repeat.

Perhaps this month's deadline will yield something miraculous!

  1. Seriously,

White undercoat, water wash, minute wash of shadow grey to the recesses, bring it back up to white.

Did a scout squad in a night like that, plus detailing and the blue half.

What is it about the white you're finding so time consuming? Trick is - And I've said this before - dont dirty the undercoat unless you have to, and it makes it a damn site easier to keep it white afterwards! Remeber the flat panels of armour dont need washing, just recesses.

  2. If it was 100% white all over there would be no problem. The issue is neatness. If the brush slips while painting blue on adjacent panels then it's a huge effort to bring the white back up again.

  3. Ahh. thats just practice I'm afraid.

Or, I don't know if you've tried this, but have a go with masking fluid. Paint your white areas with it once finished and then just peel it off when you're done.

Or the other way round. Personally I paint everything but the white first.

  4. Masking fluid sounds interesting. I had to do something similar with masking tape in order to spray varnish the cockpit on the first wave serpent without getting any on the clear plastic.

I'm getting better at it and, yes, practice makes perfect. The second Wave Serpent is almost done and I haven't had anywhere near as much trouble this time around. Hopefully the Fire Prism will sail by in a similar fashion.
